LUMPY LODGE has been created  in memory of  Dear Lumpy who inspired us to help rescue other small animals in need.  Lumpy was our very first adopted rabbit who was suffering from a debilitating illness which saw him through a rigorous regime of sometimes 3 times daily treatments and hospitalisation. His gentle interaction with us and the vet team and nurses at Grove Lodge was tolerated by him, soley, we believe, because he knew that we were there for him morning, noon and night to give him unconditional love & help that he so desperately needed to have a quality of life, however short or long that was to be.

Lumpy was 9 months old when we adopted him and he lost his fight for life at the age of 3 years and 10 months.   When Lumpy passed away quietly at home after an extremely adventurous morning running around his favourite garden  there was no warning that Lumpy was going to leave us on that sunny afternoon.  There were no indicators or clues when Lumpy left us.  (It is known that rabbits have the ability to disguise an illness in order to protect themselves -  particularly in the wild - from predators and this is why it comes as a terrible shock to some pet owners if  their pet passes away sometimes suddenly without any indication of illhealth).  Although we knew deep down that each day was another special day we were still devastated on his passing and found it extremely hard to come to terms with losing him as we have with Fauna, Fifi and Gerty.  Sleep Tight all of you.

So we share with you this very special story about Lumpy with the hope that others will know there will always be animals out there in need.

We would love you to consider using our facilities at LUMPY LODGE in celebration of his life in the hope that we are able to continue our work with rescued animals and at the same time being able to offer your loved ones the same TLC that Lumpy received as do all our animals here at

We remember all our loved ones who have been rescued and bought to LUMPY LODGE who are dearly departed but never forgotton by us.

When Gerty arrived at our sanctuary she was heavily pregnant at the time.  We were on day & night watch because Gerty appeared to be an older guinea pig and we did not know if this was her first litter & whether complications may arise.  They all arrived safely shiny eyes wide open and ready for their first feed from mum - Gerty made a wonderful mother.  Gerty sadly passed away following a short illness in hospital.  We found it incredibly hard to come to terms with losing her after making a dash to the hospital caught up in traffic; Gerty passed away shortly before we arrived but we were able to cuddle her and say our goodbyes.   Gerty was a wonderful sweet natured guinea pig, mother & companion to her little family and we are thankful that she was part of our lives.

Saffie & Fifi came to us one New Year's Eve transported all the way from Peterborough beautiful little sisters of average age.  Sadly we lost Fifi to a rapidly developed tumour and sadly was put to sleep god bless her.  Saffie became rather withdrawn after the loss of her sister and a new 'sister' had to be found to Saffie to counteract her 'sadness'.  So along came Betty Boo from a rescue sanctuary to our rescue sanctuary and Saffie was uplifted.

Sadly Saffie passed away a year later following a diagnosed 'tumour'.  Even though you try to prepare yourself for the day to say goodbye it never gets any easier.  Saffie passed away in her daddy's arms - he walked to the top of the garden with her so that she could have the last little bit of sun on her head as she slipped peacefully away.  So sadly missed by her mummy and daddy but mostly by her adopted sister Betty Boo.   Betty Boo is coping quite well without Saffie with the company of a companion called Alfie who lives and interacts with her in the adjoining pen.  Alfie is now 'in charge' of a hareem of ladies'!

Wolfie was sadly taken ill without warning, the following day Wolfie worsened and was decided that Wolfie should be put to sleep as his breathing was laboured - he was suffering from a tumour - he was only 3 years old and was one of our little babies who was born here at Lumpy Lodge to his mum Dear Gerty.  This was a terrible shock which makes his passing very sad.  Our vet confirmed Wolfie's condition was a tumour & although common in piggies so sadly too soon for Wolfie to leave this world at the age of 3 years.  Wolfie leaves behind a sister and a daughter.  So sadly missed by his mummy and daddy.

Dee Dee was sadly taken ill without warning but overnight after seeing our vet she took a turn for the worse and was admitted to hospital this Christmas 2007.  Our vet thought she was picking up abit that afternoon in hospital but suddenly decided it was all too much for her after they x-rayed Dee Dee and discovered a problem with her bowel.  Dee Dee was Wolfie's sister and in the stark realisation of them both passing away at a relatively young age it does not keep one from wondering a genetic connection being the reason for their untimely passing.  God Bless you  Dee Dee.  She leaves a daughter behind called Cecelia who appears to be coping quite well with the company of a companion called Rosie who lives and interacts with her in the adjoining pen.

Our eldest resident is dear dear Fester!! Fester sadly lost his beautiful sister, Fauna, but he has coped very well probably better than we did at the time (For a while after Fauna's passing he had a 'safe' cuddly toy sharing his home which he occasionally cleaned!) Fauna's passing was premature as she had developed a chest infection and other complications without any warning which is difficult to realise particularly when she was a houserabbit with her brother for the winter months.  We miss dear Fauna very much and Fauna was cremated and laid to rest  with Lumpy in the gardens of Lumpy LodgeFester visits his favourite vet at Grove Lodge every 3 weeks to have his front teeth burred down because his was born with a disenlignment of his jawline.  Fester copes wonderfuly each visit and his vet & nurse always tell him what a good chap and well behaved he is!!

Peony & Charlie Brown were rescued in January 2008 after the delivery of a litter. Beautiful guinea pigs; a Sheltie and a Peruvian.  2 little boys were happily re-homed. Laurel & Hardy.  2 little girls remain with us Nutmeg & Buttercup.

Jasmine and the 3 Bears! that have been advertised on our Home Page recently during June 2008 have been successfully rehomed!  Jasmine will have a new older playmate called Mavis whom had lost her sisters and the  3 Bears! all boys yet to receive new names have been rehomed alltogether.  Our thanks to the families for supporting us.
